   “The Grandfather Tree”

To find that iconic native grandfather tree—one that has seen generations of change, standing as a silent witness to the passage of time. This special tree may be home to many species of birds and possums, sheltering them for generations. It may have once provided refuge for ground-dwelling species that are now rare or disappearing. Perhaps it has stood watch over the movements of Indigenous peoples as they journeyed across the land, adapting to the evolving environment. To be eligible, the tree should: • Be approx. one metre diameter at the trunk • Be iconic or historically significant . This tree has been taken for granted, unnoticed by those who pass by daily, seeing it as just another part of the landscape. Yet, it has seen its neighbours fall, survived storms and drought, and welcomed new life in their place. Artists are invited to seek out and capture the essence of these trees—their resilience, their history, and their role in Gippsland’s natural and cultural environment. • Have developed hollows • Be located within Gippsland While wildlife and surrounding landscape can feature, the tree itself must remain the primary focus.
