What is “Recipes of Life”?
The Recipes of Life group program is modelled on a narrative methodology which uses Recipes and Cooking as tools to engage people in storytelling, promote healing and build community connections.

How does it work?
This group is open to people of diverse cultural backgrounds. You will be invited into a conversation about your favourite traditional food or meal, to explore significant cultural and personal memories associated with food and share a Recipe. Each week you will help prepare, cook and eat a favourite meal together, while along the way sharing personal Recipes For Living. This could be your ’recipe for surviving hard times’ or a ‘recipe for settling in a new country’ or a ‘recipe for happiness’ or something else! The process of creating a collective Recipe Book acknowledges everyone’s skills, knowledge and what they give value to in life. The Recipe Book will be launched at a celebratory dinner in the garden with the broader community.

Who is offering the program?
Nestled by the lake in Sale, Seed Lakeside Community Garden is a space where people come together to grow, share, and connect.
The aim of this garden is to give individuals and community groups the opportunity to take part in activities that encourage friendship while also learning new skills and enjoying the many health and wellbeing benefits of being outdoors and growing delicious, healthy, organic vegetables.
The group will be facilitated by Lucy Van Sambeek (Mental Health Social Worker and Horticulture Therapist) and volunteers from Seed Community Garden from diverse cultural backgrounds.
Thanks go to Australia Post and Seed Community Garden for supporting this initiative.

When?
The first group runs for 4 consecutive weeks from Thursday February 5th, 2026 between 10am and 1pm.
