This track is dog friendly, suitable to 2WD access and a Grade 3 track - 1 to 4 hours duration. 6.5km return. Occasional steps. Short steep hills. Formed track some obstacles. Limited signage. Bushwalking experience recommended.

Start off at the Blue Pool Day Visitor Area Carpark

Starting from the Blue Pool Day Visitor Area Carpark, this track begins with a short climb north along Freestone Creek to a lookout offering views down to the Blue Pool below.

Walk a former mining settlement

Continue north past Froam Campground and cross the Freestone Creek Road at Gladstone Creek, the site of a former mining settlement that burned down on Christmas Eve in 1868.

Picnic at McKinnon's

The track then follows a contouring route above the road, before dropping back down and following the 4WD access road to Freestone Creek at McKinnons Point. Rest your feet at one of the picnic tables and take in stunning views of the cliff face before crossing the creek and continuing along McKinnons Point Track.

Soar where the falcons fly

After about 500m, the track veers off to the left onto Ridge Track. This pleasant section follows a shady gully showcasing an array of plant species that differ from other sections of the walk. The track then climbs up to Peregrine Lookout, offering views of Freestone Creek. As the name suggests, Peregrine falcons may be seen from here during the breeding season (September to December).

The track then winds its way through dry open forest comprising of Red Box, Stringbark, and Ironbark passing an old mine and chimney ruin before descending to a final crossing of the Freestone Creek. Here you can cool off with a quick dip and enjoy views of Blue Pool and the surrounding geology.
