Accommodations for Every Traveler

Adventures and Exercise

Apart from the nominated areas listed, dogs can be exercised without leads, provided they remain in the effective control of the person walking them. For those travelers who are happy to stay on-lead, we also have some fantastic walks which you can find here.

Designated Dog On-Lead Areas

All dogs are required to be placed on a lead at all times in the following areas unless otherwise specified.

Wellington Shire Local Laws Officers actively patrol these areas, and if you are found to have your dog off the lead in the areas listed below, you may be issued with a $330 penalty for the first offence, and a $660 penalty for the second offence.‍

Cowwarr - Lions Park (Cricket St).‍

Golden Beach - Golden Beach/Paradise Beach Community Centre Playground Area.‍

Heyfield - George St, Temple St, Apex Park (George St), Lions Park, Rotary Park.‍

Loch Sport - Foreshore Lions Park Playground Area.‍

Maffra - Johnson St (Between Foster and McMillan Sts), Fred Drury Park (Carpenter St), Lions Park Playground Area (Johnson St), Macalister Wetland Reserve Area (Flora and Fauna Risk), Island Reserve/Port of Maffra, Macalister River Regional Park (McMahon Dr).‍

Port Albert - Rutter Park.‍

Rosedale - Prince St, Playground Area (Lyons St), Prince St Reserve, Edward Crooke Reserve (west of Neighbourhood House).‍

Sale - Sale Pedestrian Mall, Raymond Street (between Stawell and Foster Sts), Cunninghame St (between Reeve and York Sts), Macarthur St (between Reeve and York Sts), Macalister St (between Reeve and York Sts), York St (between Foster and Stawell Sts), Adventure Playground/Fauna Park Area (Guthridge Pde), Market Area (During Market operational times only), Port of Sale Precinct (Bordered by Foster St, Park St, Canal Rd and Desailly St South), Lake Guthridge and Guyatt Walking Tracks (Flora and Fauna Risk), Little Athletics Ground/Playground Area (McLachlan St).‍

Seaspray - Seaspray Foreshore Playground, Children's Playground (area between Buckley, Bearup, Lyons and Buchan Sts).

Designated Dog Off-Lead Areas

For those planning longer excursions, the region boasts several remarkable spots for extended adventures. Travelers often look for convenient places to let their pets burn off energy before continuing their journey, and The Middle of Everywhere provides several excellent off-lead locations:

  • Briagolong State Forest: Dogs are welcome off-leash in most areas of the forest, though owners are advised to use leads near campgrounds, picnic areas, and public facilities.
  • Brennan Park, Sale (Desailly Street): Situated a short walk from the Gippsland Centre, this open space allows dogs to run freely.
  • Velodrome Park, Sale (Inglis Street): This former cycling velodrome offers wide-open spaces—often used for weekend obedience classes—perfect for a vigorous run.
  • 90 Mile Beach: The main stretch from Port Albert to Loch Sport, including Woodside Beach, is renowned for its off-leash accessibility.
  • Freestone Creek: Located just above the township of Briagolong, this scenic area is a favorite for both human and canine visitors.
