Lake Guthridge, according to Wikipedia is “a small artificial lake in Sale, Victoria, Australia, named after the first Sale mayor, Nehemiah Guthridge. The lake was originally a bog but Guthridge suggested converting it into a lake to supply the growing population. Its sister, Lake Guyatt acts as overflow”...
Informative, to a point, but it does nothing to convey the calm and beauty this former bog and its overflow offers on any day. A haven for birdlife, the chance of watching sunrises and sunsets over the water during a walk or run, a maker of mists and catcher of every colour the skies offer. The lake has also been, and remains, the source of water for the green spaces of Sale including the Botanical Gardens, which it borders to the east, and whose complex it is encircled by. For a former bog, it punches far above its weight. Nehemiah, we salute you.
