Driving past a cemetery and having your Middle of Everywhere app tell you it is worth a visit might have you wondering - why?

This truly is worth a visit as so much wonder can be found as you wander through this unique place, connecting with past lives and the stories the stones tell. The earliest marked graves go back to 1855, though the official records only go back to 1866, which of course means there are probably many earlier resting places lost to time.

There is a dedicated RAAF section, given the presence of the air base near Sale, with some of those interred the result of accidents in training. The War Cemetery holds the remains of 58 Second World War dead. The oldest just 38, but most under 25.

The earliest marked graves date from 1855, however rudimentary records only began in 1861 and are incomplete until 1874. Early burials naturally include that of explorers, pioneers, the prominent, the poor, and their children. The overwhelming feeling though as you walk a place like this is love. People just like you, at rest, after lifetimes of, like the rest of us, just doing the best they can.
