Sale Skate Park

Gone are the days when skateboarding and skateparks in general were resisted, or thought of as noisy annoyances in the day-to-day of street life. Skateparks have become inclusive, happy places where challenge and growth are encouraged. Joyful places. Places where little kids begin and become big kids helping the littlies they once were.

Now, these increasingly complex parks are used by skateboarders, bladers, scooter lovers and BMX, all coexisting in that slightly competitive way the street sports have, but when someone does something ‘sick’, they all acknowledge it, because you do.

Wellington Shire is extraordinary in its commitment to great skate amenities. The Sale Skatepark is one of the most comprehensive in regional Victoria, beautifully sited and planned in a recessed park by the Port, a row of trees on the northern side designed to shade in the summer but supply warming, drying light through the winter.

It has a well designed, flowing mix of bowls, ledges, spines, rails and ramps, challenging all skill levels, with amenities for families too with bbq areas and setting for the attentive eyes for the mums and dads of the kids who will one day say: “I can do this by myself”. It happens.

The other great thing about Sale is it does have a great skate shop, called Kurb, just around the corner in Raymond Street, where Jeremy and Victoria can help with all your skate needs.

Other parks in the shire are in Maffra, Heyfield, Stratford, and Yarram, where a brand new park has just been completed.
