Stratford Transfer Station

The Stratford Transfer Station, managed by the Wellington Shire Council, provides an essential localized waste disposal and recycling solution for the township of Stratford and its surrounding rural properties. Located on the Stratford-Maffra Road, the facility allows residents to responsibly manage household waste, accepting domestic landfill refuse, recyclables, and green waste. To ensure the site remains focused on everyday residential needs, individual loads are capped at a maximum capacity of two cubic metres, with larger or commercial volumes directed to the central Kilmany Resource Recovery Centre. For the convenience of local users, the facility is equipped with modern payment infrastructure, accepting both cash and card/EFTPOS transactions.

The station operates on a concise, part-time schedule tailored to the community's mid-week and weekend requirements. It is open to the public three days a week: Wednesdays from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm, and Saturdays and Sundays from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm. In strict compliance with Wellington Shire safety and environmental protocols, the Stratford Transfer Station closes completely on major public holidays, including Christmas Day, New Year’s Day, and Good Friday. To ensure community and operator safety, the facility also shuts down entirely on any day declared to have an Extreme or Catastrophic fire danger rating, and it will close immediately if a VicEmergency "Watch and Act" or "Emergency" warning is issued for the local area.
