Yarram Transfer Station - Hyland Hwy, Yarram VIC 3971, Australia
Get directions
The Yarram Transfer Station, operated by the Wellington Shire Council, provides a comprehensive regional waste management and resource recovery solution for residents, farmers, and businesses in the southern district of the shire. Located on the South Gippsland Highway, this major district facility acts as a vital hub for the historic township of Yarram and its surrounding coastal and agricultural communities. The station accepts a wide range of materials, including standard domestic landfill refuse, recyclables, scrap metal, and green waste. Additionally, it serves as a crucial infrastructure point for the local agricultural sector, functioning as a designated drumMUSTER collection site for the safe disposal of eligible, triple-rinsed chemical containers, and accepting specific hard waste items like tyres. The facility features full payment infrastructure, allowing users to pay via cash or card/EFTPOS.
The facility operates on a regular four-day schedule designed to accommodate both weekday trade and weekend residential clean-ups. It is open to the public on Mondays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm. Because the southern Gippsland region encompasses highly fire-prone coastal plains and dense forest foothills, the Yarram Transfer Station strictly adheres to the council’s rigorous emergency and safety protocols. The facility is closed completely on major public holidays, including Christmas Day, New Year’s Day, and Good Friday. To ensure the safety of the community and site operators, the station shuts down entirely on any day declared to have an Extreme or Catastrophic fire danger rating, and it will close immediately if a VicEmergency "Watch and Act" or "Emergency" warning is issued for the local area.
