Maffra Landfill

The Maffra Landfill, operated by the Wellington Shire Council, is a key waste disposal and resource recovery facility serving the agricultural and residential community of Maffra and its surrounding districts. Located on Sellings Road, this site handles standard domestic landfill refuse, recyclables, and green waste, providing local property owners with an accessible venue for routine waste management. Additionally, the Maffra site acts as a permanent, participating drumMUSTER collection point every Wednesday, allowing local farmers and land managers to safely dispose of eligible, triple-rinsed agricultural chemical containers. To accommodate users, the facility is equipped with modern payment infrastructure that supports both cash and card/EFTPOS transactions.

The facility operates on a staggered, part-time schedule across five days of the week to align with community demand. It opens on Mondays and Fridays from 12:00 pm to 5:00 pm, Wednesdays from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, Saturdays from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm, and Sundays for a shorter morning window from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm. In accordance with Wellington Shire safety guidelines, the Maffra Landfill closes completely on major public holidays, including Christmas Day, New Year's Day, and Good Friday. It also shuts down entirely on days declared to have a Catastrophic fire danger rating, though it generally remains operational on Extreme fire danger days unless otherwise advised. Furthermore, emergency protocols dictate an immediate closure of the site if a VicEmergency "Watch and Act" or "Emergency" warning is issued for the immediate area.
