Central Gippsland Health is the primary provider of health and aged care services across the Wellington Shire. It serves the immediate population of Central Gippsland while reaching a broader community in East Gippsland with specialized care, including perinatal services, critical care, and surgery.
As both a sub-regional and integrated health service, the organization offers an unusually broad scope of care—spanning primary, secondary, and tertiary services. These range from a near-comprehensive selection of Home and Community Care (HACC) services to adult intensive care, coronary care, and level 4 neonatal care.
The health service focuses on leveraging its integration to dismantle traditional program barriers and service delivery silos. By adopting an "active service model," it places patients at the center of care to help them achieve their individual health goals and aspirations.
To guide these efforts, the organization released the Central Gippsland Health Plan 2012–2022 in 2013. Designed in response to the Victorian Health Priorities Framework 2012–2022 Rural and Regional Health Plan, the document outlines an area-based planning approach to ensure services remain responsive to community needs.
Central Gippsland Health operates acute campuses and residential aged care facilities in Sale, Maffra, and Heyfield. Additionally, it delivers community and home support services throughout the Shire of Wellington (excluding Yarram and District) through dedicated centers in Maffra, Sale, Heyfield, Rosedale, and Loch Sport.
