Heyfield Transfer Station

The Heyfield Transfer Station, managed by the Wellington Shire Council, provides a central resource recovery and waste disposal solution for residents in the western district of the shire. Located on Rifle Range Road, this facility accepts a wide range of household and properties materials, including general landfill refuse, recyclables, automotive waste, and green waste. To ensure accurate billing and processing, the site implements certain capacity restrictions; for instance, large concrete or brick loads exceeding two cubic metres are not accepted on-site and must be directed to a larger regional facility. Conveniently for users, the Heyfield site features up-to-date payment infrastructure, accepting card and EFTPOS transactions in addition to cash.

The facility operates on a structured schedule across four days of the week, opening from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm on Tuesdays and Sundays, and from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm on Thursdays and Saturdays. Like all waste facilities within the Wellington Shire, the Heyfield Transfer Station strictly adheres to regional safety protocols. It remains completely closed on major public holidays—specifically Christmas Day, New Year’s Day, and Good Friday—as well as on days declared to have an Extreme or Catastrophic fire danger rating. Furthermore, the station will shut down immediately if a "Watch and Act" or "Emergency" warning is active for the immediate area, prioritizing community and operator safety above all else.
