Welcome to 1st Yarram Scout Group

At 1st Yarram Scout Group, we give young people in Yarram and the surrounding Gippsland region the opportunity to build resilience, gain practical life skills, and form lasting friendships. Through outdoor exploration, community involvement, and hands-on challenge, Scouting helps youth discover their potential and lead the way forward.

• Hands-on Learning: Hiking, camping, bushcraft, water activities, and team navigation.
• Community Driven: Proudly connected to Yarram, supporting local events and conservation.
• Inclusive Environment: Open to all youth aged 5 to 18, regardless of background or ability.

Our Purpose & Values

Scouting in Yarram provides a structured, supportive environment where young people step outside their comfort zones safely. Guided by adult volunteers and the Scouts Australia Youth Program, youth learn to manage risk, work in teams, and take responsibility for their personal growth.

• Leadership: Encouraging youth to lead activities, mentor peers, and make decisions.
• Resilience: Building confidence by overcoming challenges in outdoor and practical settings.
• Service: Giving back to the local Yarram community through service projects and events.

Joey Scouts for 5–7 years. Discovery, play, team cooperation, nature walks, basic craft, and outdoor games.

Cub Scouts for 8–11 years. Skill-building, weekend camps, map reading, knot-tying, and community service.

Scouts for 11–14 years. Lightweight bushwalking, canoeing, patrol leadership, survival skills, and regional gatherings.

Venturer Scouts for 15–17 years. Self-directed expeditions, vocational development, high-adventure sports, and leadership.

For Youth Members

Interested in trying Scouting? We offer a 3-week free trial so prospective members and parents can experience regular hall meetings and outdoor sessions before committing.

1. Submit an Enquiry: Complete our online contact form or visit us on meeting night.
2. Attend 3 Trial Sessions: Experience games, activities, and group teamwork firsthand.
3. Formal Registration: Complete official Scouts Victoria enrolment and receive your uniform scarf.

For Adult Volunteers & Leaders

1st Yarram Scout Group is powered by dedicated adult volunteers, leaders, and parent committee members. No prior Scouting experience is required—full training, Working with Children Checks, and accredited leadership pathways are provided by Scouts Victoria.

• Section Leaders & Assistants: Help deliver weekly programs and mentor youth.
• Group Committee Members: Assist with administration, fundraising, and hall maintenance.
