Uncover your roots in Yarram, Alberton Shire, and the broader South Gippsland region. Whether you are searching for early pioneer ancestors, tracing family lines across Victoria, or preserving local history for future generations, the Yarram Genealogy Group Inc. is here to help you piece together your family history.
Established by local history enthusiasts, Yarram Genealogy Group Inc. is a non-profit community organisation dedicated to collecting, preserving, and researching the rich personal and family histories of Yarram and surrounding districts, including Alberton, Port Albert, Tarra Valley, Woodside, and Devon North.
The Yarram district holds a unique place in Victorian history. As one of the earliest settled European regions in Gippsland—anchored by the historical port at Port Albert—our area attracted timber fellers, farmers, miners, and maritime traders throughout the 19th and 20th centuries.
Our collection focuses specifically on the historic Shire of Alberton and surrounding localities:
We maintain an extensive in-house collection of original records, transcriptions, microfilms, and digital indexes. We welcome local researchers and visitors traveling from afar. Our volunteers are available during opening hours to assist you in navigating our physical and digital indexes.
Membership is open to anyone interested in family history, whether your ancestors lived in South Gippsland or you simply want access to genealogical resources and research support.
